Oxygen, Inflammation, Recovery & Tissue Repair: How the Evidence Connects
Why Independent Oxygen Research Matters
A PubMed study does not have to test PerformanceDrink to establish what oxygen does in human biology.
Independent research can establish biological mechanisms and document what happened when oxygen or oxygenated water was studied under specific experimental conditions. PerformanceDrink-specific research then addresses what happened when PerformanceDrink itself was tested.
This distinction does not diminish the PerformanceDrink results. PerformanceDrink has its own product-specific evidence, while independent research provides scientific context for interpreting those findings.
Human Research on Drinking Oxygenated Water
Published human research provides important evidence that orally consumed oxygenated water can produce measurable physiological effects under certain conditions.
In a randomized placebo-controlled trial involving 22 healthy adults, participants consumed either oxygenated mineral water or normal mineral water before walking under reduced-oxygen conditions.
Blood oxygen saturation, SpO₂, decreased in both groups. The reduction was significantly smaller in the oxygenated-water group. Walking distance was not significantly different. The researchers concluded that drinking oxygenated water before exercise may inhibit the reduction in SpO₂ under the conditions tested.

A separate randomized, double-blind crossover study involving 30 healthy men examined oxygenated water using MRI measurements.
Researchers detected changes in hepatic portal-vein measurements following ingestion. Oxygenation contributed an additional measurable change beyond the effect associated with drinking water itself. The study did not establish a generalized whole-body performance benefit.
PubMed: Oxygenated Water Assessed by MRI
Together, these studies are important because they show that orally consumed oxygenated water can produce measurable physiological effects under defined conditions.
These studies did not test PerformanceDrink and are not PerformanceDrink clinical trials.
Where PerformanceDrink Fits
PerformanceDrink has its own product-specific evidence.
Independent laboratory testing has measured dissolved oxygen in tested PerformanceDrink Oxygen Water. PerformanceDrink has also been evaluated using oxygen-related physiological measurements along with separate physical, cognitive, EEG, blood-glucose and exercise-performance measurements.
Published oxygen science → Human oxygenated-water research → PerformanceDrink-specific measurements → PerformanceDrink physical and cognitive performance results.
When independent research and PerformanceDrink testing produce compatible findings, the independent research provides scientific context for interpreting the PerformanceDrink observations.
This does not mean that every effect ever reported for oxygen has automatically been demonstrated for PerformanceDrink. It means the PerformanceDrink results can be examined alongside established and published oxygen science while keeping the different forms of evidence clearly identified.
Oxygen and Inflammation
Oxygen has an established relationship with inflammatory biology, although the response depends on how oxygen is delivered, dose, duration, tissue and medical condition.
A systematic review of human hyperbaric oxygen research reported changes in inflammatory and angiogenic markers, including reductions in several pro-inflammatory acute-phase proteins, interleukins and cytokines. The researchers also reported increases in growth factors and other pro-angiogenesis cytokines.
PubMed: Oxygen, Inflammation and Angiogenesis Review
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is different from drinking oxygenated water. These results therefore cannot be assigned directly to PerformanceDrink.
They do establish an important part of the scientific question being investigated: changing oxygen availability can affect biological pathways associated with inflammation and tissue repair.
Oxygen and Tissue Repair
Human research also documents relationships between oxygen availability and healing.
In one randomized double-blind study involving patients with chronic leg ulcers, wound area decreased by an average of 35.7 percent after six weeks in the hyperbaric-oxygen group compared with 2.7 percent in the air-control group.
PubMed: Oxygen and Chronic Wound Healing
Again, this was hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It was not PerformanceDrink and was not drinking oxygenated water.
The result therefore provides evidence concerning the importance of oxygen in healing biology. It does not establish that PerformanceDrink produces the same wound-healing result.
The PerformanceDrink Research Question
PerformanceDrink testing has recorded performance-related responses through several different measurement methods.
Independent science establishes important roles for oxygen in cellular metabolism and tissue biology.
Published human studies have also demonstrated that orally consumed oxygenated water can produce measurable physiological effects under defined conditions.
Answering that question requires additional controlled PerformanceDrink-specific research measuring outcomes such as SpO₂, inflammatory biomarkers, blood glucose, heart rate, exercise performance and recovery.
That research would allow the contribution of the oxygen component to be measured more directly.
