The Science Behind Oxygen and Human Performance
PerformanceDrink has been evaluated through multiple measurement methods, including blood oxygen saturation, EEG brain-activity measurements, cognitive testing, Bio-Well observations, biofeedback measurements and exercise-performance testing.
These observations raise an important scientific question: Could increased oxygen availability help explain some of the recovery and performance responses observed following PerformanceDrink consumption?
The evidence below is presented as a connected series of findings. PerformanceDrink-specific observations are kept separate from independent published oxygen research.
1. PerformanceDrink Before-and-After Measurements
PerformanceDrink testing has recorded before-and-after responses using several assessment methods.
- Pulse oximetry
- EEG brain-activity measurements
- Cognitive-performance testing

- Bio-Well observations
- Biofeedback measurements
These methods measure different biological or performance variables. They should not be treated as measurements of the same outcome.
For example, pulse oximetry measures peripheral blood oxygen saturation. EEG measures electrical brain activity. Cognitive testing measures task performance. Bio-Well and biofeedback provide separate functional observations.
2. Human Research on Orally Consumed Oxygenated Water
Independent human research provides evidence that orally consumed oxygenated water can produce measurable physiological observations under defined experimental conditions.
Gastrointestinal Absorption Research
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study involving 30 healthy men investigated whether oxygen dissolved in water could be absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract.
MRI measurements detected oxygen-related changes in the hepatic portal vein after consumption of oxygenated water. The investigators also noted that the precise oxygen enrichment could not be separated completely from MRI signal changes associated with water absorption.
PubMed PMID 32100358Blood Oxygen Saturation During Hypoxic Exercise
A randomized, placebo-controlled, single-blinded study involving 22 healthy adults compared oxygenated mineral water with normal mineral water during 30 minutes of exercise under reduced-oxygen conditions.
The decrease in blood oxygen saturation was significantly smaller in the oxygenated-water group. Walking distance was not significantly different between groups.

Oxygen availability is connected with cellular signaling, immune activity and inflammatory processes. The effect depends on oxygen concentration, delivery method, exposure time, tissue and physiological condition.
Published oxygen research has reported changes in inflammatory mediators under specific oxygen-treatment conditions. Research involving hyperbaric oxygen has examined changes in cytokines, inflammatory proteins and oxygen-sensitive signaling pathways.

Oxygen is required for normal tissue repair. Oxygen-dependent processes include cellular energy production, collagen formation, angiogenesis, immune defense and cell proliferation.
These mechanisms explain why oxygen availability is studied in wound healing and tissue repair.

Human studies using medical oxygen treatments provide evidence that increasing tissue oxygen under defined clinical conditions can affect selected healing outcomes.
Chronic Leg Ulcers
One randomized double-blind study reported a 35.7 percent reduction in wound area after six weeks in the hyperbaric-oxygen group compared with 2.7 percent in the air-control group.

A randomized prospective study reported a 59 percent reduction in wound area in the hyperbaric-oxygen group compared with a 26 percent increase in the control group.

A randomized controlled study reported complete wound closure in 25 percent of the hyperbaric-oxygen group compared with 5.5 percent receiving routine care.
PubMed PMID 28968346Severe Open Tibial Fractures
A randomized trial reported tissue necrosis in 29 percent of the hyperbaric-oxygen group compared with 53 percent of controls. Delayed fracture union was reported in 5 of 53 patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen compared with 13 of 52 controls.
PubMed PMID 361009276. Oxygen, Recovery and Human Performance
Performance requires adequate oxygen delivery, energy availability, hydration and recovery. PerformanceDrink has separately recorded oxygen-related and performance-related measurements through university, laboratory and field testing.
The independent oxygen literature provides scientific context for asking whether oxygen availability could contribute to some of the responses recorded in PerformanceDrink testing.
That relationship remains a research question unless the specific mechanism is directly measured in a controlled PerformanceDrink study.
Back to top7. Bio-Well and Biofeedback Observations
PerformanceDrink Oxygen Water has been evaluated using before-and-after Bio-Well and biofeedback observations.
These measurements provide another set of before-and-after observations following consumption. They are separate from pulse oximetry, EEG, cognitive testing and exercise-performance testing.
8. Breathing Oxygen vs. Drinking Dissolved Oxygen
Breathing oxygen and drinking water containing dissolved oxygen are different routes of exposure.
Normal atmospheric air contains approximately 21 percent oxygen. Respiratory oxygen enters the bloodstream through gas exchange in the lungs.
Dissolved oxygen in water is measured as a concentration in the liquid, commonly expressed in milligrams per liter or parts per million. A value such as 20 ppm therefore describes oxygen dissolved in the beverage and cannot be directly compared numerically with the percentage of oxygen in air.
PerformanceDrink laboratory testing separately measures dissolved oxygen in the finished beverage.
9. What the Evidence Shows
PerformanceDrink-specific evidence: PerformanceDrink has recorded before-and-after physiological, cognitive and performance-related measurements using several testing methods.
Independent oral oxygen research: Published human studies show that orally consumed oxygenated water can produce measurable observations under defined conditions.
Independent oxygen biology: Published research establishes important roles for oxygen in cellular energy metabolism, inflammatory biology, angiogenesis and tissue repair.
Medical oxygen research: Human clinical studies show that increased oxygen delivery under specific medical conditions can affect selected healing outcomes.
These evidence groups are scientifically related, but they are not interchangeable. The independent studies provide biological context. PerformanceDrink-specific effects must be established by studies that directly test PerformanceDrink.

The evidence creates a testable scientific sequence:
PerformanceDrink dissolved oxygen → measured human oxygen-related responses → oxygen-dependent biology → inflammation and recovery pathways → observed performance and recovery outcomes.
The individual parts of this sequence can be supported by different forms of evidence. Demonstrating that the complete sequence represents the mechanism responsible for a PerformanceDrink outcome requires direct controlled testing of the intermediate biological markers.
